September 2010 will bring my 4th solo coffee house art show in just over 2 years. The cafe’ gallery has been good to me, offering up great sales, 2 large-scale commissions and an overall great response. I am very happy that people like my work.

Similar to my other shows, “Cut & Color” will feature cut paper with boldly drawn and painted marks. As I am passionate about color, expect to see a series of brightly hued canvases. For contrast, the White Series will be shown as well.

After completing the DaSilva Commission, I had the sense that I was more open inside, that I had gotten bigger in terms of what I could contain artistically. I felt that I was ready to create in series of paintings, i.e. to create several works of art around a single theme or idea.

I have more to learn in terms of ‘how do I follow through on painting 10 or more pieces in the same style’. Thus far, I’ve created pieces one at a time, enjoying the freedom to follow every whim of my heart, creating different styles, but all recognizably mine. Part of the secret to this lies in the process of creating large commissioned works. In working with commission pieces, I have to keep focused on a very specific goal for weeks at a time and I have to create within a set of pre-determined parameters. So, I know that I can do it, I just need a some practice and a bit of s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i–n-g.

The White Series consists of 12 mixed-media compositions on pressed board. Here are a handful of them, the rest to be posted soon.

This is a fascinating documentary about an ordinary couple who amassed a collection of close to 4000 works of contemporary art over the course of 40 years – he was a career postal worker, she a librarian. This is the story of their lives and how they become one of the most honest and avid collectors of modern art to date.

I recommend this movie to anyone interested in collecting art. By example, Herb and Dorothy have normalized the act of purchasing and owning art, showing us that anyone can collect and live with great works of art.

For the month of May, I was the featured artist at Tryst Coffeehouse in Washington DC.
I received the Walsh Commission after Brid and Mark experienced this show.

I was the ‘Featured Artist’ at The Muse in downtown Frederick, MD
for the month of September, 2009. I did my first in-store art demo, creating this piece of work in the 5 hours that I was there.
My husband loved it, so it is now in our personal collection.
